Honestly speaking how many of us have avoided buying a quality watch to settle for a homage or cheaper alternative?

I am sure most of you. I made the same mistake over and over until one day when I randomly decided to sit with my horde of low-cost watches and actually calculated the cost incurred over the years. Most of them were damaged and as they had no warranty, I had to get them repaired at local shops. Not long after this I was at the Dubai International Airport, and at the duty free I happened to glance at a nice sports watch from Breitling and on an impulse, I bought it. It cost me $5299 but on the bright side, as the Breitling chronograph was covered by a five-year international warranty, two years have gone by, I wear that same watch every day and haven’t had to use the warranty till now.

So, here are 3 reasons, based on my findings, why you should purchase a higher quality watch instead of its cheaper alternative.

The durability of watches is an important factor to both consumers and retailers. Mechanical and quartz watches are delicate pieces of machinery that can be damaged if proper precautions aren’t taken. Customers have a certain expectation of the watches’ strength and durability, and those expectations aren’t always met. As a result, the buyer often comes back to the retailers, complaining about the quality of their newly purchased watches, demanding for a refund. This is mostly the case with economical watches. The manufacturer usually exaggerates the products’ longevity, such as water resistance, break resistance, etc. The situation is quite different with higher tier watch brands such as Breitling, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Rolex, TAG Heuer and others in a similar category. These brands design watches for normal wear as well as for exploratory purposes and their designs are a definition of elegance and class combined with eminence and durability.

Inexpensive brands of watches such as Casio, Invicta, Timex, Citizen and others in the same list provide a one-year warranty at best which may or may not be Internationally recognized. This becomes an issue in case you need to replace straps, or damaged parts. There is always a catch with such brands when you approach their service centers and you end up paying even under warranty. In case you chose the option of local repair, there is always the risk of having parts of your watch stolen or replaced by low-quality materials. Luxury brands always have a reputation to uphold and with that thought in mind, their guarantee and warranty policies are almost equivalent to a contract made with the customer when they purchase a watch. These higher tier brands provide two to five-year international warranty, with their service stores located all over the globe.

Sell or Gift

Many a times, we get bored with what we own and decide to revamp everything, from clothing to accessories but that means spending more to purchase new things. When it comes to high end watches, especially if they are classics, you can always sell them at a price that is almost equal to or more than the price you had purchased it for. This is because high quality watches from brands like Rolex, Panerai, Ulysse Nardin, IWC Schaffhausen and other Swiss brands have a steady demand in the market owing to their quality, durability, value and reputation. So, if you are bored with your expensive watch, you can always sell it at a good price and buy a new one. Also, old and used classic watches can always be handed down over generations as a treasured family watchandbullion.comheirloom.

Keeping these three significant benefits of higher purchases in mind you can be assured that long term vs short term you will end up on top.
